Life is not about winning arguments!



The Bible says: “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.” (1 Corinthians 4:20).Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through the word of God so you may always arm yourself with the truth. And make the truth a part of your everyday life.

Then share your knowledge of God with others. Be humble in your presentation. Not everyone will accept your message, including people those who profess to be Christians. Do not allow yourself to get into arguments about the word of God. If someone you are talking to about the kingdom of God becomes argumentative, politely end the conversation and move on.

Your job is not to convince anyone. Your job is to present the word and the Holy Spirit of God uses the word you presented to convict whoever He chooses to convict and bring to God. Always stick to you assignment; do not exceed what you are sent to do. Here is what Jesus said to do when confronted with anyone who opposes your message:

“If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.” (Matthew 10:13-15).

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues.

On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:16-20).

Avoid arguments with your listeners because arguing with them is quarrelling about words. You are not measured by how many people you are able to convince on the spot. You are measured by your obedience to present the gospel to others. By simply choosing to share the word of God with people and doing so, you have completed your assignment. The rest is done by the Holy Spirit of God who does not need your help in doing his part. Here are more passages from the Bible for your reinforcement and reassurance:

“Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.


Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”” (2 Timothy 2:14-19).


“Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.” (2 Timothy 2:23-26).

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

“They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.” (2 Timothy 3:6-9).
